Internal and external tender for the position of English editor in the Publications Department

תיאור התפקיד

 English editing and translation from Hebrew to English of the Museum’s
publications and exhibition wall texts.
 Seeing texts through the process, beginning with translation/major editing,
through language and copy editing, to proofreading and approval for printing.
Texts include catalogues, collection books, wall texts, and more.
 Providing editing and translation services for the Museum’s various
departments.
 Working together with curators and graphic designers to produce books and
exhibition texts.
 Fulfilling all the requirements and tasks associated with the full scope of the
role.
 Participating in the names committee for exhibitions and the editorial committee
for catalogues (examining the concept of the catalogue in terms of content and
design, list of contributing authors, and innovative value, and reading and
evaluating all the articles, some of them in English).
 


 

 

דרישות סף

1. Native English speaker, outstanding written and spoken English, and excellent
command of Hebrew
2. Significant editing and translating experience
3. Academic degree, preferably in the Humanities or Social Sciences; degree or
certificate in translation and/or editing an advantage
4. Ability to tackle texts in a wide range of subjects

5. Meticulousness – ability to focus on details of language and presentation, from
the manuscript stage to the final pre-press stage; excellent storytelling ability;
ability to distinguish the essential from the trivial
6. Good command of software relevant to editing/translation and proofreading
work (such as Word and Acrobat)
7. Excellent interpersonal relations and communication and teamwork skills
8. Ability and willingness to work under time pressure
9. Additional languages an advantage
Criteria 1–3 are threshold requirements.
Candidates will take a translation and editing test.
